Sunset on the River

I never tire of photographing the Mississippi River at sunset. It’s so mesmorizing, watching the water roll by and waiting for the sun to color the sky. And if you wait for just a little while, you’ll see one of the many barges that go up and down the river. We’re fortunate in Memphis to have two bridges that cross the river, the Hernando…

Ducklings…

About a month ago, my neighbor had a mama duck nest in her backyard, right next to her swimming pool. Apparently, it takes twenty-eight days after the eggs are laid for the ducklings to hatch…and, sure enough, these babies came right on schedule! The morning of the twenty-eighth day, eleven eggs started hatching. By that evening, the nine surviving ducklings were swimming around in…

Who Can Resist…

After photographing fireworks for about 5 years, I decided this year I would enjoy them – from start to finish – without looking through a camera lens…or maybe skip them altogether! Usually, I attend about three different firework displays each Fourth of July. I love the booms and the sudden bursts of light. It’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re…

Birthday wishes…

When you’re twelve your future consists of what’s happening in the next two minutes…what you’re going to wear…what you’re going to eat…who’s posting on instagram or snapchat. For this birthday girl, turning twelve is all about fun, giggles, birthday cake, and presents! Happy birthday, Sweetie!

Celebrating Families…

Being a family photographer is a like being the proverbial fly on the wall. Once a family gets comfortable with the whole process of being photographed, they tend to forget you’re there and you get to witness first-hand the interaction between family members. Siblings start to tease and play with each other…little ones let go of their death grip on mom…even dads relax! Here…

Sweet Little Princess…

All little princesses should have someone to protect them, and this sweet one certainly does! Her protector is her big brother who adores her, although he’s only known her for a few short weeks! When little Miss A came into the studio for her newborn photos at 13 days old, her big brother came along too…just to make sure she was well taken care…

When Plan B turns out to be the better option

I was approached by our local recreation center to help create a visual display of the management staff and the fitness trainers. I had planned to photograph everyone outdoors using natural light, but the weather didn’t cooperate…on the morning of the shoot it was raining! Camera equipment and clients don’t mix well with rain, so Plan B was executed. My assistant and I grabbed…

A Family That Plays Together…

Whether it’s riding bikes, taking a run, or relaxing together at home, this family loves to laugh and play together. A warm afternoon on the Wolf River Greenway was perfect to capture this family’s love of life and love for each other.

Little Man Turns 2…

This cute little man stole my heart the first time he smiled! So typical of a 2 year old he was up, down, and all around! I’m not beyond a bribe! I admit – I did entice him with candy to get him  to sit still for just a moment. But it was worth it to get the cutest little dimple you ever saw!…

Do you have a DSLR camera and get blurry, dull pictures? Do all those buttons and dials intimidate you? Take control of your camera and learn to shoot in manual. You’ll be surprised at how much clearer and sharper you photos can be! Funny, loving & delightful…

You have to meet this awesome family…funny, loving, and delightful! The kids were spontaneous; the parents loving. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the kids interact with one another as they roamed up and down the riverbank throwing sticks and logs into the river. They scoured the rocks that lined the river looking for frogs and other creatures. They ran and played through the fallen leaves….

Hot Air Balloons…

I love hot air balloons, but have never had the chance to photograph them…until last night! Our little city held its annual Fall Festival and Balloon Glow and I never knew they had a balloon glow. Where have I been? I do admit that it’s been many years since I’ve been to the festival (not since my children were little and they’re grown now)…

Bikes, trikes, and the biggest sprinkler you’ve ever seen…

The recreation center in our town sponsors a Small Fry Triathlon every year for kids ages 2 years to 6 years. They take part in all three categories of a regular triathlon – run, bike & swim. They used tricycles, bikes with training wheels, bikes with no training wheels, scooters, and all sorts of riding toys. For some of the kids this was a…

Photo Walk in Nashville…

Master Photographer Trey Ratcliff of Stuck in Customs organized a Photo Walk in the U.S. and a friend and I attended the one in Nashville. It started around 7 pm so we were able to capture all the bright lights of lower Broadway and the downtown area. If you get a chance, check out Trey’s website. He is definitely a master of photography. In…

Patience Required for Dragonflies…

I read an article on Digital Photography School about photographing dragonflies. That sounded fun! Steve Berardi from PhotoNaturalist pointed out that their “bright contrasting colors make them really stand out in their natural environment, and their large size makes them easy to photograph with a standard telephoto lens.” Super, I thought. I know just where to find some! A friend and fellow photographer joined…

A Kids Triathlon – Perseverance & Determination…

This was my 4th year to document the the Kids Triathlon in our town. As always it’s so much fun to watch these young athletes swim, bike, and run with all their heart. From the overall 1st place winner in the senior category to the littlest participant in the junior category these 7-15 year olds pushed themselves to finish the course. I admire these…

The eyes have it…

One evening in June my neighbor excitedly called and asked me to come photograph an Owl Moth that has landed on her front porch. It was beautiful! I’ve never seen an insect that this before! After a little research I found that this nocturnal beauty was actually a giant silk moth called Polyphemus Moth found in North America. It gets its name from the…

Pirates, Horses, and Photographers…

Once a year over 1000 photographers meet in Addision, Texas for the biggest and the best school of photography in the U.S – probably in the world since there were students from at least five other countries. Texas School of Photography is an intense week long school with some of the top instructors in the industry. Students choose a class and an instructor and…

Fairies and Lights in the Night Sky…

It’s only been 10 days since we celebrated the birth of our nation, but it feels like an eternity. But I have to admit the 4th of July is my most favorite holiday. Yes, even more than Christmas and birthdays! With July 4th you get cookouts, friends, and lights in the night sky and if you’re lucky, you can extend the fun for days!…
